Building Local Capacity for Development

In Azerbaijan, civil society organizations (CSOs) needed significant support to achieve their goals of strengthening democratic and governance processes, improving health, and promoting economic growth.

Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Azerbaijan play a key role in national and regional development. The USAID Building Local Capacity for Development (BLCD) project strengthened CSOs across the country, enhancing their abilities to serve as relevant, effective, and sustainable partners in their efforts to improve democratic processes, health, and economic growth. BLCD focused on raising CSOs’ levels of professional competence, facilitating their engagement with their communities, and improving relationships between CSOs and Azerbaijani state authorities with a mandate to strengthen civil society’s role in national and regional development.
