Fostering Agricultural Markets Activity

Project Dates: August 2009 - July 2015
Aiming to enter the European Union, Bosnia and Herzegovina must improve the economic value of the agriculture sector.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, changes to the agriculture sector can increase market opportunities, help citizens, and improve the country’s chances for accession to the European Union. Fostering Agricultural Markets Activity — a collaborative effort by USAID and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency — improved competitiveness among agricultural producers and agribusinesses. Using environmentally sustainable methods, the activity expanded production, processing, sales, and marketing of high-demand products. To increase the economic value of agriculture across the country, the activity took a demand-driven market development approach that taught farmers how to identify, understand, and respond to buyer requirements. The activity focused on building market links, increasing access to finance, providing technical assistance and capacity building, and supporting policy reform.
