Strengthening TB Control in Ukraine (STbCU)

Project Dates: April 2012 - April 2017
In an effort to lower the extremely high rate of tuberculosis infection among its citizens, Ukraine is strengthening its health care system’s ability to detect, treat, and prevent the illness.

The World Health Organization (WHO) listed Ukraine as one of the highest priority countries for tuberculosis (TB) control in Europe. To counter TB infection in Ukraine, the USAID Strengthening TB Control in Ukraine (STbCU) project partnered with the Ukrainian government and nongovernmental organizations to improve how health care providers detect, treat, and prevent TB. The project strengthened various health services in eight regions of Ukraine. STbCU focused on improving the quality of laboratory practices for correct diagnosis, promoting safe patient practices, increasing the treatment of high-risk TB patients, and training health care workers to address the risk of TB co-infection among people who have HIV.
