Over the last five decades, Chemonics has supported small and growing businesses and improved local market conditions throughout the world. More recently, we have focused on bridging the gap between local entrepreneurs and private capital through blended finance, investment facilitation, and other tools to crowd in private investors. With funding from USAID’s Climate Finance for Development Accelerator(CFDA), Chemonics supported the launch of the Green Guarantee Company (GGC), the world’s first climate-focused guarantee company, which aims to unlock $1 billion in climate finance for emerging markets by providing guarantees to de-risk investment in green bonds and loans. Through the Investment Readiness Learning Initiative, Chemonics is analyzing the work of two USAID-funded programs, the Uganda Strategic Investment Activity and the Investment Facilitation Activity in the DRC, to deepen the evidence base for investment readiness factors, develop strategies for greater private sector engagement, and analyze other critical aspects of investment facilitation in emerging markets.
