Country Director | Kingstown, St. Vincent and the Grenadines| 2024

Chemonics seeks interested and qualified individuals for a Country Director position to support the anticipated USAID funded Eastern and Southern Caribbean (ESC) Anti-Violence Activity.

The ESC Anti-Violence Activity seeks to address youth involvement in gang violence in Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts and Nevis, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines by empowering young people with positive pathways. The Activity will build national and regional capabilities to address gang-related crime and violence. It will strengthen the criminal justice system capabilities, enhance, or establish anti-gang related legislation, and pilot and evaluate for scale-up micro level evidence based secondary and tertiary anti-gang interventions. The Country Director will serve as a violence prevention and positive youth development expert and oversee all program activities and strategies within St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This position will be based in Kingstown, St. Vincent. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Deputy Chief of Party and Chief of Party to provide technical leadership in the development and implementation of violence-prevention strategies for the activity.
  • Build the capacity of local partners and stakeholders to adopt and utilize youth centered violence prevention and evidence based best practices.
  • Oversee all operations and grant activities within St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • Direct and supervise assigned staff by providing guidance, support, and oversight.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project-related reports and abstracts.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including USAID, local government, and international partners
  • Lead the development or adaptation and implementation of innovative interventions for youth centered violence prevention, identifying needs for short-term technical assistance and coordinating STTA.
  • Lead documentation and sharing of knowledge and emerging practices from the program internally within Chemonics and externally with the wider stakeholder audience.
  • Promote collaboration between project technical and operational staff to achieve activity goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate regular technical meetings with project staff and partners to review program implementation and identify measures to overcome barriers to implementation and enhance quality of deliverables.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4-7 years of relevant work in violence and crime prevention, positive youth development, and/or criminal justice system strengthening.
  • Advanced degree in public policy, social work, international development, security studies or a related field.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively with government agencies, USAID or other donors, the private sector, sub-recipients, and local partners to achieve program targets
  • Experience supporting high-risk youth and youth in conflict with the law in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • Experience engaging local stakeholders to promote youth development and advocating for youth rights.
  • Experience in the supervising of diverse teams and demonstrated cultural sensitivity and inclusive leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a technical team.
