With greater simplicity, equity, and efficiency in its fiscal policies, the Tunisian government can foster sustainable and inclusive growth. Learn how the Fiscal Reform for a Strong Tunisia activity contributed to these outcomes.
Recognized as the starting point of the Arab Spring movement, Tunisia’s 2011 revolution spurred unprecedented political and social transformation. This report highlights how USAID’s Fiscal Reform for a Strong Tunisia (FIRST) activity provided technical assistance and capacity building to the Tunisian Ministry of Finance, so that its fiscal institutions were positioned for sustainable growth following these political shifts. FIRST supported the Ministry of Finance develop sound and fair revenue policies and modernized its tax administration. These efforts made it easier for the Tunisian government to carry out its revenue collection mandate effectively and transparently. The report also examines how the project increased the efficiency of the Ministry of Finance’s actions, from social spending to priority investment to service delivery, and how the project strengthened its strategic communications with policymakers.
