Senior Advisor Phillip Butterfield
Phillip Butterfield is an international development expert with over 20 years of experience in the management, coordination, and implementation of large and complex education initiatives in developing, conflict and post conflict countries. As the current senior advisor for the USAID Learn Together Activity in Tajikistan, Phillip directs the activities of the Chemonics team to assist the Ministry of Education and Science to develop, revise and implement a national program of teacher and school leader professional development aimed at improving the quality of instruction with a focus on reading comprehension, critical thinking, and mathematics in primary schools. Previously, Phillip was the project manager for the Training Educators for Excellence Project in the Republic of Georgia. He also directed a $20 million School Support Program funded by USAID that assisted 50 Palestinian schools across the West Bank and East Jerusalem to improve the quality of education provided. He earned his master’s degree in economics from San Jose State University and has completed 43 hours of doctoral studies in Educational Leadership at Fielding Graduate University.
