Chief of Party, Senegal HSS Dr. Matar Camara
Dr. Matar Camara has 38 years of professional experience in public health and has spent most of his career in Senegal. During his 15 years at USAID/Senegal, he designed, implemented, monitored, and evaluated policies around decentralization and health care financing before transitioning to donor-funded programming. He is currently the Chief of Party for the USAID/Senegal Building a Resilient Health System activity. Matar has extensive experience in health systems strengthening, institutional capacity building, climate-resilient health systems, and managing multisector teams. Since joining Chemonics in 2018, he led the USAID/Human Resources for Health (HRH) 2030 Senegal country buy-in, where he built a political commitment to HRH and a more effective, well governed, and gender-balanced health workforce. Earlier in his career, Matar provided invaluable support to Senegal’s Ministry of Health to develop the country’s contribution to the World Health Assembly, which focused on tracking national progress in protecting health systems from climate change. He holds a medical doctorate degree from the University of Dakar and a master’s degree in epidemiology from the School of Medicine in Bamako, Mali.
