Development programs worldwide are designed to protect vulnerable people, places, and livelihoods from climate change, but with smarter methods, these programs could be even more effective.
Prioritization of Climate Variability and Change by African Governments .
Tool | March 30, 2020
This tool was developed to find specific quotes, policies and planning documents, and additional resources highlighting the prioritization of climate variability and change by African governments and organizations.
Governments around the world have recognized the potentially devastating consequences of climate variability and change to economic development, livelihood security, and natural resources conservation. A study conducted in 2017 by the USAID-funded Adaptation Thought Leadership and Assessments (ATLAS) project examining official statements and planning and strategy documents found that fifteen countries and five regional organizations in sub-Saharan Africa have acknowledged the reality and seriousness of the risks and impacts of climate variability and change. This tool, developed by ATLAS using information from the study, allows users to search for relevant quotes and official statements, policies and planning documents, and additional resources demonstrating each government and organization’s prioritization of climate variability and change.
